I primarily used FTH as my damage stat; incantations and flame art/sacred affinity on my weapons. I used a Morning Star for most of the game. Then got a Lordsworn’s Straight Sword, then finally the Pike. WebUsually I prefer "No Skill" so I can properly use my mainhand's Ash of War, and then offset the slow and grindy nature of Greatshield play with a powerful Ash like Blackflame Tornado. Incidentally, if you have a Thrusting or Curved Sword, you can put Parry on your mainhand, and be that one guy who has a fancy Greatshield Parry build.
